Dear Friends and Colleagues:
The Society has been active, as usual, during the period of report. Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries (GAFS) Section has published the proceedings of the 9th Global Conference on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries held during 2025, with the title: Transforming Aquaculture and Fisheries for Gender Justice, summarising the collective effort of 192 delegates from 36 countries.
Another significant achievement has been that the suggestions of GAFS have been incorporated in the report of High Level Panel of Experts of Committee on World Food Security (HLPE-FSN) entitled “Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture for Food Security and Nutrition. The report can be downloaded from FAO website. Further, a special issue of Maritime Studies is being launched by GAFS.
Asian Fisheries Social Sciences Research Network (AFSSRN) has been involved in strengthening research capacity in social sciences research and during the period of report organised two training programs.
Conferences to look forward are the triennial conference of the Indian Branch of Asian Fisheries Society (14IFAF) being organised in collaboration of with other national institutions/organisations scheduled for 18-20 November 2026 in Bubhaneswar, India with the theme “Transforming Fisheries and Aquaculture: Bridging the Science and Society”. Fish Health Section of AFS has scheduled its 13th Symposium on Diseases in Asian Aquaculture (DAA13) for 5-9 September 2028.
The Society will be happy to hear from the readers about their research outcomes, training programs, conferences, etc. to share with other readers of the Newsletter.
