WorldFish is proud to be supporting the organisation of the Global Symposium on Fisheries Management in an Ecosystem Context (FIMEC) 2027, the first ever event of its kind since the 2001 Reykjavik Declaration on the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management. FIMEC will take place in Penang, Malaysia, from 10-13 May 2027. The symposium will bring together researchers, fisheries managers, policymakers, development practitioners, industry representatives, and other stakeholders from around the world to advance ecosystem-based approaches to fisheries management.
As Malaysia hosts this important global event, we are keen to encourage stronger participation from the countries where we work, particularly across Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Pacific; and from institutions and experts working in fisheries, aquatic food systems, marine conservation, fisheries economics, governance, aquaculture, and related fields.
With the deadline for abstract submissions approaching, we kindly encourage those who have yet to do so to consider submitting an abstract and sharing this opportunity with colleagues, students, partners, and professional networks.
Presenting at FIMEC 2027 provides an excellent opportunity to showcase your work to an international audience, contribute to discussions shaping the future of fisheries management, and engage with leading experts from around the world. The symposium also offers a unique chance to highlight Malaysian and Southeast Asian experiences and innovations in sustainable fisheries and aquatic food systems.
